Sea Fishing Locations in Northern Ireland

Sea Fishing in Northern Ireland

Unless fishing for salmon or sea trout, no licences are required for sea fishing in Northern Ireland. Having covered Wild Atlantic Way Fishing (click link to view), here are some of the best sea fishing locations in Northern Ireland.

Magilligan

Magilligan or (Benone) Beach, Co. Londonderry is one of the most renowned marks for sea fishing. Frequently used by both individual anglers and clubs, this area offers species including flounder, dogfish and bass.

Roe Estuary

The Roe Estuary, Londonderry, is another excellent sea fishing location. Dominated by large boulders (seaward side) and a wall, this mark offers species including flounder and silver or fresh-water eel. There is plenty of space with a long stretch to fish from.

Portrush

Portrush, Co. Antrim offers several great sea fishing marks: Portrush Harbour, where main species include coalfish and codling; the “Blue Pool”, which offers some decent pollack and coalies, and Ramore Head, a good spot for mackerel and pollock – as well as several small pools producing some quality coalies, pollack, wrasse and more. Taking a boat out to Skerries Rocks (about ½ mile off-shore) offers a chance to catch large pollack, wrasse and the occasional cod.

Dulrush Fishing Lodge

An extremely popular fishing location itself, the Dulrush Fising Lodge is also the perfect base for fishing trips to all the above locations and many others like them across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
